Like the Olde English Bulldogge the
English Bantam Bulldogge
(now know as just Bantam Bulldogges) is a designed recreation of a Bulldog of
Olde.
In the 1800s there was a smaller sized Bulldog often referred to as a "Toy Bulldog".
This Bantam sized Bulldog it is believed went into the development of the Boston Terrier and the French Bulldog that we have today.
During
the early 1970's breeders began to develop a bulldog that possessed a
smaller compact stature yet maintained the traditional "bully"
characteristics and temperament qualities while breeding away from
the health issues that plagued many of the modern bulldog breeds.
In approx 2004 this rare smaller Bulldog breed was presented to the United Canine Association for acceptance and possible registration and was accepted.
The United Canine Association created the first
official breed standard and named this rare breed the English Bantam Bulldogge
then in 2011 the UCA dropped the word "English" and
now
recognizes the bred officially as the Bantam Bulldogge.

The Bantam Bulldogge has since been officially recognized and accepted for registration and the conformation show ring with the International Olde English Bulldogge Association (IOEBA) as well.
Bantam Bulldogges are appreciated and
praised for
their compact solid stature, low body
weight (between 20
to 40 pounds), improved health characteristics over the
traditional English Bulldog and other small bully breeds. This breed should whelp natural (no c-sections) and males should be able to breed natural (no A.I.).
The
Bantam Bulldogge is extremely rare due to the fact that unlike many of today's "Mini
Bulldogs" found on the internet
and
elsewhere that are often based on unhealthy weak runts or
genetically
inferior
foundation breeding stock the Bantam Bulldogge has been carefully, thoughtfully and selectively bred
thru years of dedication and stringent breeding practices to
develop and set the breed's type while maintaining it's smaller
physique.
Only healthy exceptional examples of the original
foundation bully breeds were used in the primary development
of the Bantam Bulldogge breed.
Many of the so called "Mini Bulldogs" foundations found on the net are often bred around underdeveloped or stunted English Bulldogs in an effort to produce and attempt to maintain a smaller size.
Often the so called "Mini Bulldogs" do not reproduce their smaller size due to the fact that the smaller foundation dogs have larger
dogs in their pedigrees and often reproduce what is in their genetic make up, which are normal sized Bulldogs.
